Skin needling, also called microneedling therapy or collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device containing fine needles. This treatment is extremely popular because it activates the body’s own collagen production and ultimately helps reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles, lines, and acne scars.

Scalp Microneedling

By using high-precision, medical-grade microneedles, scalp microneedling is a professional hair restoration treatment designed to stimulate follicles and improve scalp health. It creates micro-channels to boost collagen and increase the absorption of nourishing serums, aiming to help counteract hair thinning and support healthier growth.

A series of scalp microneedling treatments can increase blood flow, collagen production, and nutrient delivery to the hair roots, especially when treating hair thinning, including cases of androgenetic alopecia.

How Does Microneedling Work?

During the treatment, micro-injury happens to the skin. Fine needles create tiny, invisible puncture wounds on the top layer of the skin, and within minutes these injuries stimulate collagen and elastin production.

The micro-injuries created during treatment stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process.

Since collagen is key to youthful, healthy skin, the result is smoother, shinier, and softer skin. Microneedling does not significantly damage the epidermis, and there is virtually no risk of infection or scarring when the procedure is performed properly.

The result is glowing remodeling and rejuvenation while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

Benefits

Face microneedling and scalp microneedling are differentiated treatments, and microneedling can also be safely performed on other body areas including the stomach, legs, arms, and chest.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

In order to achieve noticeable results, four to eight treatments are required. There is little to no downtime for this treatment. Some experience mild discomfort or redness, but nothing that would require staying indoors for an extended period of time.

What Will I Experience After My Treatment?

The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure. It is normal for clients to experience redness, tightness of the skin, and some noticeable swelling on the day of treatment and shortly after. Clients with sensitive skin may experience redness for two to three days.

Some people experience mild peeling of dead skin three to four days after treatment. These conditions resolve over time without further complications.

Recommended aftercare:
  • Avoid working out for at least 24 hours
  • Avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours
  • Stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours
How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Your results may last anywhere from three to six months depending on your skin concerns. It is recommended to schedule follow-up treatments twice a year to maintain the results.

Micro-Needling Process
  1. Treatment: Using non-traumatic needles, we create more than a million healing centres in the skin during an average treatment. The needles penetrate the skin to different depths depending on the area and treatment indication. In CIT treatments such as anti-aging, scars, and stretch marks, the purpose is to identify pinpoint bleeding with minimal blood droplets. In hair growth and pigmentation treatments, the needles are usually shorter and pinpoint bleeding is not necessarily seen.
  2. Healing Process: Controlled damage instructs the skin to heal slowly and correctively rather than in emergency mode. Cells specialized in wound healing become active, migrate to the site of the wound, and proliferate. Punctured capillaries bring blood platelets, immune cells, and endothelial cells that release growth factors and cytokines. These increase cellular signalling and amplify the healing response.
  3. Healthy Skin: After healing, damaged skin is replaced by new skin with improved structure, firmness, and elasticity. The content of collagen and other components of the extracellular matrix are replenished. Cellular functions are restored and skin cells are reset to their healthy mode of operation. In essence, microneedling results in healthier and better-looking skin.
